Cool new ShowMeDo – Make your own BushFinger art
My good friend and local artist Shardcore has made us a ShowMeDo on how to make your own BushFinger art-piece. His 10 minute video is superb and his site has all the necessary back-ground material (details here).
My First Wikipedia Edit
I have been using Wikipedia for years and have always wanted to contribute – and I never knew how easy it could be. Having noticed that the Wikipedia entry for Star Trek mentioned:
A common and fondly-held superstition among fans is that the even-numbered Star Trek films are superior to the odd-numbered Star Trek films
and knowing that John had proven this ‘rule’ using IMDB data, I figured Wikipedia needed an update.
I made the entry a week back and it still stands, so I guess it is accepted. Woot! The paragraph now reads:
A common and fondly-held superstition among fans is that the even-numbered Star Trek films are superior to the odd-numbered Star Trek films. A statistical test based on IMDB data lends credence to this conclusion [1].
Ok, so the edit is minor, but it only took 5 minutes…I shall get more involved now – it is so easy!
New ShowMeDos by John
John’s new ShowMeDos introducing Java using Eclipse are online. Most cool!
ShowMeDo Updates
Our ShowMeDo.com is growing nicely. We have 23 videos, 4 from contributors, with 3 new videos to add (using Java in Eclipse from John Montgomery). We’ve also getting great interest from visitors who want to make new videos – most cool!
Some of the offers we’ve had include videos for open source audio/video tools like Audacity and VirtualDubMod and Microsoft’s SQL server and C# language. Soon we’ll start to branch out into new topics including Java and Ruby, and then we’ll see where we go. We’d love to start hosting some real-world educational videos. Car mechanics and pottery, anyone?
The requests page demonstrates some of this interest – there’s a mix of geeky Python items along with Knot Tying and Knitting, to name a few. Everyone gets a vote, and I follow these up to find people who’d like to contribute.
The latest addition is the forum and shortly we’ll have a new theme courtesy of Kyran’s hard graft. All of this gets announced on the ShowMeDo Blog.
Back from skiing in Canada
Ok, so I’ve been quiet for a while. I’ve spent the last two weeks skiing in Banff, Canada (webcam). I’ve taken a bunch of photos [edit – they’re here], but have to find my Compact Flash adaptor first of all. In the meantime, I’m most proud of this one – my first Double Black Diamond at Norquay just outside Banff
taken with Duncan, just before we wandered on down…
